Designing a Scalable Workforce Platform for the Global Gig Economy

What does it take to run a real-time platform for thousands of gig workers and the companies hiring them? That’s the challenge we tackled with Gig Marketplace—a global ecosystem where workers find jobs, get paid, and stay organized, while companies forecast demand, hire at scale, and manage operations from a live dashboard.

VLAH led the complete redesign of this complex product—UI, UX, workflows, data visualization, and a custom design system. We didn’t just clean it up. We re-engineered it to scale.

The Mission

GigMarketplace had two very different users, and both needed clarity and control:

  • Gig workers—remote, multilingual, task-driven—needed a simple, reliable interface to find work, track shifts, and get paid.
  • Client companies—global, fast-paced, ops-heavy—needed hiring pipelines, budget oversight, and real-time workforce visibility.

We built a system that bridged both worlds. Custom dashboards. Smart workflows. One scalable design system that worked for frontline agents and C-level execs alike.

What We Did

  • Led full UX/UI redesign across worker and client platforms
  • Built the GigMarketplace Design System for long-term scalability
  • Designed role-based dashboards and real-time visualizations
  • Created a workforce management suite:
    • Job board and application flow
    • Interview and hiring pipelines
    • Scheduling and shift planning
    • Time tracking and payments
  • Used Tableau, Google Charts, and Sheets for live data visualizations
  • Collaborated directly with product, engineering, and executive stakeholders
  • Mentored junior designers and shaped hiring strategy

Workforce Management, Reimagined

This wasn’t just a scheduling tool. It was a full-stack workforce engine:

  • Clients could filter candidates, interview, and move them through hiring—all in-platform
  • Managers could view live coverage, flag conflicts, and resolve issues
  • Workers got a clean, trustworthy view of their tasks, hours, and income
